Newbury Almshouse Trust’s first residents’ coffee morning was a great success, allowing residents to meet some of the volunteer Directors as well as the new chairman, Graham VanBergen.

Braving the cold weather, residents enjoyed hot drinks and a selection of cakes at City Arts and enjoyed catching up with old friends and new neighbours. Attendees from the Trust included proctors and the Vice Chairman.
Graham Vanbergen said:
“We had a great response from our residents, despite the icy conditions, and were very pleased to be able to chat to them over a relaxed cup of coffee. We want these mornings to create a real sense of community for all our almshouse residents as well as allowing them to feel they can come to us with any issues or suggestions.”
“City Arts have provided the perfect venue for these mornings; warm, friendly and rooted in the local community; and we’re very grateful to Hobbs Property Services Ltd for sponsoring our first three mornings.”
The coffee mornings, which are going to be held monthly, will be sponsored by local companies and provide a free hot drink and cake to residents. They are part of the Trust’s ongoing programme of creating a community for residents, which also includes promoting local events and services that may be of interest, supporting initiatives such as the communal garden, and a newsletter.
