Newbury Almshouse Trust is run by volunteers, from our board of directors to our team of proctors, who provide an essential link between our residents and the Trust. If you’re interested in joining our team, please contact us to find out more.
Graham - Chairman
Graham brings over 30 years’ experience working with large national organisations, including senior leadership and board-level roles in the property sector, most notably with Nationwide Building Society. His professional background spans property strategy, governance, risk and long-term asset stewardship.
Having lived in Newbury for more than 20 years, Graham is deeply connected to the town and its history. He has a longstanding passion for buildings, and as Chairman, he is focused on strengthening governance, safeguarding the Trust’s historic almshouses, and securing a resilient future for the residents they support.

Jenni - Communications/Heritage
Jenni has over twenty years experience in marketing and communications, working for a range of clients, from large government contracts and small local businesses. She has lived in Newbury and Thatcham all her life (apart from a year in Didcot that she doesn’t like to talk about). She is currently studying for a DPhil in English Local History at Oxford University, with a thesis on interwar council housing in Newbury.
Passionate about housing history, the Trust allows Jenni to be part of a 800 year old legacy of providing homes to those in need, both in researching the heritage of the Trust and communicating its aims and successes to the wider world.
David - Legal Advisor
With a career spent advising corporations on commercial contracts and risk management, David brings extensive legal and governance experience. A Newbury resident for over 15 years, He is keen to use his skills in support of the town and a community organisation such as the Newbury Almshouse Trust.
Roz - Proctor (Resident Liaison)
Roz has lived in Newbury for 50 years and is happily married with two children and three granddaughters, who keep life busy and fun. She is a big believer in making memories - whether that is family holidays, camping at festivals or just spending time together. Roz enjoys keeping active with yoga, step and the gym every day. She loves heading to London for shopping and theatre trips. Roz has been a proctor with Newbury Almshouse Trust for so long she can’t remember when it started!
Jane - Proctor (Resident Liaison)
Jane was born in Kingsclere and has lived in Newbury for 48 years. With three grown children and seven grandchildren her days are fairly busy, but they keep her young and on her toes. She loves crafting and can often be seen wielding a glue gun! Alongside this Jane loves to bake cakes and when looking after her youngest granddaughter both can be found in a flurry of flour creating the weekly bake off.
With a love of cruising, over the last fourteen years Jane has visited many beautiful places from Norway to Hawaii. Jane joined NAT as a Proctor in November 2024 and enjoys all aspects of this role.
Steve - IT/Cybersecurity
Steve has been a resident of Newbury for the past 20 years. Following a decade of service in the Royal Air Force, he transitioned into a career in IT and Cyber Security and now works for an environmental research organisation. Over nearly 30 years, Steve has gained extensive experience across both the commercial and non-profit sectors.
He has dedicated significant time to volunteering and serving as a trustee for various charities.
Steve is committed to the Newbury community, which is reflected in his involvement with the Trust. Motivated by a desire to help those experiencing housing difficulties, something he has seen in his involvement with veterans, he is passionate about making a positive impact. He is also keenly interested in history and the preservation of historic buildings, which further fuels his enthusiasm for the Trust's work.
Ian - Fundraising
Ian is privileged to have been the Chairman and Founding Director of Transform Performance International, a Newbury-based global advisory firm, offering solutions to their client’s business performance challenges. His clients have included world-renowned brands such as Virgin Media, HP and American Express. He has worked in over 50 countries and has co-authored three books ‘100 Big Ideas to Help You Succeed’, ‘The Salesperson’s Secret Code’, and 'The Leader's Secret Code'.
Ian has lived in the Newbury district for over 50 years and has been delighted to contribute to the Newbury Almshouse Trust. It is a great success story whilst also a 'well kept secret' - he hopes to help contribute to the mission of providing more affordable homes for those in most need.

Kat - Clerk
Kat has worked with the Trust since 2021 as Administrator/Clerk and feels privileged to have seen so much change within the Trust for the benefit of both the residents and the people of Newbury. Her family relocated from Thatcham to the South Welsh coast in 2023 but she return multiple times a year for Trust events. Alongside her administrative work she also works part-time as a nurse in elderly care, and spends a lot of time stood on the side of muddy fields with three rugby players at home!
